Pictures Worth More than Words

Today included Polignano, a town to our south.  Quaint, rustic, touristy, scenic.  One enters Polignano over a stone bridge that spans a narrow gorge with a small inlet of the Adriatic.  Pictures cannot capture the breathtaking views but neither can words describe them.

When we parked in an almost legal parking spot, it must have been an omen.  Right beside the car we saw this intriguing path and wondered if it might lead into the gorge.  Not too smooth, but it looked promising.

Sure enough, those columns were supports of the bridge above that we had just crossed.

A dry creek runs under the bridge into the sea.  In the background the town's requisite church, a duomo, stands out.

A climb up the hill provided a stupendous view through the bridge's arches to the inlet.

Lots of caves - higher up there is a pizzaria where you eat in a grotto.  It was closed for the winter.

Yes, Laura thought I might fall into the water, but what a walkway!

The crumbling structure attests to the age of man's presence in this area.

Yes, it's just a typical plant.  I couldn't help thinking of the contrast of the crumbling rocks, yet new growth goes on, just as it has for many centuries.

I LOVE the color of water, every shade of it.

What waterfront could be complete without a fisherman and his catch?!  A respledent 'tonne' - so silvery he looks wrapped in foil.

Another important resident.  Domenico Modugno, writer of the song 'Volare' was born in Polignana.
You can find his voice @

This version was recorded in 1958 but I like it because it includes the translation of quite a dream!  Now we understand why the restaurant named Fly sits on the gorge in Polignano.
I love the carefree joy of the statue!

How could a day end more perfectly than to turn a corner to face the full arch of a double rainbow?  The clouds moved in to the forefront as time passed.
